14th Annual Bearfootin' Public Art

Friday the 13th was a good day for Hendersonville. The 14th Annual Bearfootin' Public Art Walk got off to its 2016 start with the bear reveal.

A crowd gathered in front of First Citizens Bank to see the unveiling of 20 acrylic bears that will be situated around Main Street all summer long. Joining them this year is a roaming bear that will be found in the Seventh Avenue district.

The Honor Guard started the unveiling with the colors and the Pledge of Allegiance.

The Bearfootin' Public Art Walk aims to raise funds for Historic Downtown Hendersonville and local nonprofits. Business and organizations sponsor the bears and select an artist to design the bear's appearance. The bears are auctioned off in October with a portion of the lecting ‘Edit Text’ from this m14th Annual Bearfootin' Public Art.

Among the many there was the Harry Potter-themed “Hairy Beary Pawter” bear, “City Pride” designed by West Henderson High visual arts students and “Pooch Bear” to honor Rufus “Pooch” Pace of the Henderson County Honor Guard.

The Pooch Bear was the first bear ever sponsored by the American Legion Post 77.Among the many there was the Harry Potter-themed “Hairy Beary Pawter” bear, “City Pride” designed by West Henderson High visual arts students and “Pooch Bear” to honor Rufus “Pooch” Pace of the Henderson County Honor Guard.
